THINGS TO DO IN SOUTH LAKE TAHOE

The best things to do in South Lake Tahoe are right outside your front door.

In the summer, we grab our paddleboards and head to Reagan Beach early in the morning, when the water is glassy and calm. Biking along neighborhood trails or hiking up to nearby scenic overlooks are also high on our list, especially in the evenings when the light turns golden.

In the winter, things to do in South Lake Tahoe shift to skiing and snowboarding. We also love the quieter magic of snowshoeing through snow-covered trees or bundling up for a peaceful walk along the lake.

Around here, adventure doesn’t mean going far.

Kayaking & Paddleboarding

Peacefully gliding across Lake Tahoe on a kayak or paddleboard is a must-do experience. Early mornings are ideal for glassy water and fewer crowds. Our favorite launch spots include:

  • Dock at Lakeview House – Can’t beat waking up to the sunset and walking straight out onto your own private dock and jumping on a paddleboard! It’s like having the lake to yourself.
  • Reagan Beach – Just 1.5 blocks from our Sierra Cabin! 3199 Sacramento Ave., South Lake Tahoe
  • Truckee Marsh – In the spring and early summer, you can kayak parts of the Upper Truckee Marsh, where the Truckee River meets the lake. Experience willow-lined waterways, abundant birdlife, lily pads, and beaver dams. If you are staying at our Lakefront Luxury cabin, launch right off the dock and head left, it’s just around the bend. If staying at the Sierra Cabin, launch at Reagan Beach.

Biking

With miles of paved paths and mountain trails, biking is one of the best ways to explore South Lake Tahoe. Options range from leisurely rides to technical singletrack.

  • For beach cruisers – One of the best paved options for a family-friendly ride is the South Tahoe Bike Path, which runs nearly 12 miles along the south shore and connects multiple beaches, including Lakeside Beach, Ski Run Marina, El Dorado Beach, Pope Beach, Camp Richardson Resort, Valhalla at Lake Tahoe, and Baldwin Beach.
  • For mountain bikers – Check out BikeTahoe.org’s great interactive South Lake Tahoe Bike Trails Map, which notes the ride length and difficulty level.

Didn’t bring your own wheels? Bike rentals are widely available. Tahoe Bike Company is nearest to our properties, located at 3131 Harrison Ave., South Lake Tahoe.
